SOAG Bulletin 75: ‘Wyfold Grange Excavations and Research 2021-2023’ now available online

Wyfold Grange in South Oxfordshire was the site of a recent major SOAG field project. The final report is available as a special edition of SOAG Bulletin, which is now available online. Click here. Note that it contains 4 component reports, which are also available here as separate documents.

2023-24 SOAG Lectures

The last in our winter lecture seriess is scheduled for April 4th 2024, folloing our 2024  AGM.  Non-members are welcome: it is a  good opportunity to get to know us.Click here for more details.

SOAG
FieldWork

Our long-running field-based project is Smokedown Romano-British site.  2024's  fieldwork season is likely to run through August and September. (The documentation for last season for interest is available on the Smokedown project webpage.).

We typically have severlal other short term projects each year which in 2024 are likely to include contributing to the
Kelmscott Manor Community Archaeology Project run by Cotswold Archaeology; some  activities in the Chinnor community; and the Cold Harbour Farm Survey near Wallingford run by TWHAS (The Wallingford Historical and Archaeological Society.) Click links above for more information.

SOAG membership of MTAP

SOAG has recently joined the Middle Thames Archaeology Partnership (MTAP) an umbrella organisation to coordinate archaeology activities in the Middle Thames area. There have been several MTAP projects of interest to which SOAG members are offered priority access, and there will be more in 2024 Click here for more information.


SOAG is one of the most active, independent archaeology groups in Oxfordshire engaged in excavation and landscape archaeology. We aim to promote an interest in all aspects of archaeology in South Oxfordshire. We welcome people of all ages and experience to take part in excavation, post excavation work, fieldwork and landscape study. We have a full programme of lectures by professional speakers and experienced members, and visits to places of interest.

We try to have several field projects on the go each year. Mobile Steam EngineLectures and Visits

We run a programme of public lectures, usually from September to April  The current  programme is available here.  We also run visits to places of archaeological or historical interest for SOAG members and their guests.  The current visits programme is available here.
